The name of our restaurant is “The King Quaffs” … since 1977. It was inaugurated about ten years ago and has been voted one of the best restaurants in central Umbria by the most prestigious gastronomic guides in Italy such as Gambero Rosso, Espresso, Veronelli, Umbria nel Piatto, Guida di Alice ecc.
The dining rooms and kitchens have been converted from the Castle’s ancient cellars with vaulted ceilings dating back to the fifteen hundreds and tables made from wood reclaimed form ancient wine vats. In the winter months the massive fire-place warms the evenings evoking memories of the happy gatherings of old days, whilst in the summer months eating outside on the terrace allows the opportunity to enjoy the majesty of the surrounding panorama, enhancing enjoyment of the meals.
Our dishes pay full respect to the food traditions of the region and also the seasons, but add a touch of originality and modernity in their presentation and lightness.
The menus are changed monthly, reflecting availability of the exclusively fresh products used in our kitchen and balancing our love of food with the times of the year. Certain classic, historic dishes are always available however, year round, such as our home-roasted pork with bruschetta drizzled with home-produced Casigliano extra-virgin olive oil, our famous tagliolini with truffle, pepper and shavings of cheese and our tagliata (fine slivers) of Angus beef cooked over hot embers with spicy seasonal greens with our classic dessert to finish of mille feuilles with Catalan custard, caramel and drizzled chocolate.
We also boast a widely stocked wine cellar with over 150 different labels, especial attention being paid of course, to the local Umbrian wines among the best in Italy, which perfectly compliment our traditional local cuisine.
For special occasions or just a romantic evening with your partner, it is possible to provide a candle-lit dinner for two in a private dining room, offering a special menu of elegant and refined dishes. Maximum privacy and discretion is assured. The room is accessed via an ancient, torch-lit tunnel, leading to the Castle’s ancient cellars….and if your evening is a truly romantic escape, in the heart of the Castle there is a wonderful, romantic suite available, which would allow you to feel the emotion of being masters of the Castle for one night.
This service is available every day except on Saturdays and on Wednesdays but it is desirable to book in advance.
